The Shot Heard Round the World

The Concord Hymn, by Emerson, resonates in my mind this morning. Last night a friend gave me an OATHKEEPERS t-shirt and I've been mulling that oath in my head. As I hear myself giving my oath for the first time so many years ago - an oath that is still valid - I harken back to farmers who stood on Lexington and Concord Greens to face the might of the British Army.

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world.

The foe long since in silence slept;
Alike the conqueror silent sleeps;
And Time the ruined bridge has swept
Down the dark stream which seaward creeps.

On this green bank, by this soft stream,
We set to-day a votive stone;
That memory may their deed redeem,
When, like our sires, our sons are gone.

Spirit, that made those heroes dare,
To die, and leave their children free,
Bid Time and Nature gently spare
The shaft we raise to them and thee.

Emerson has a way with words, doesn't he? He hits it squarely.

Well over two hundred years later we correspond on the Internet in much the same way as so many patriots corresponded and we discuss the government that the Founding Fathers gave us. How would they feel (my previous post) about a government that gave $50 billion to an automaker who built a car that by all estimations is a lemon - and has the audacity to charge the public $41K - not including the charging station. Oh, in addition to the $50 billion, the government will rebate $7,500 in taxes if you buy the car and for a limited time only will "give you" the $2K charging station. The government doesn't give anything. It only takes, we hope for the common good. Today does the government do us more harm than good?

Our presidents have let us down. Bill Clinton lowered the moral bar to the point where he was impeached by the House of Representatives for lying about having sex with an White House intern. George W. Bush created an environment where the American people were so fed up with him that they voted for barack hussein obama, a closet muslim, only a handful of years after we were attacked by elements of radical Islam. obama's shameful performance as head of state speaks for itself and you can scroll down my blog if you want a legion of incidents where he has shamed America and the office he holds. There's almost no end to the harm an out-of-control president can do.

An article in Investor Business Daily said this of obama:
The Wall Street Journal's steadfast Dorothy Rabinowitz wrote that Barack Obama is "an alien in the White House."
His bullying and offenses against the economy and job creation are so outrageous that CEOs in the Business Roundtable finally mustered the courage to call him "anti-business." Veteran Democrat Sen. Max Baucus blurted out that Obama is engineering the biggest government-forced "redistribution of income" in history.
Fear and uncertainty stalk the land. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke says America's financial future is "unusually uncertain."
A Wall Street "fear gauge" based on predicted market volatility is flashing long-term panic. New data on the federal budget confirm that record-setting deficits in the $1.4 trillion range are now endemic.
Obama is building an imperium of public debt and crushing taxes, contrary to George Washington's wise farewell admonition: "cherish public credit ... use it as sparingly as possible ... avoiding likewise the accumulation of debt ... bear in mind, that towards the payment of debts there must be Revenue, that to have Revenue there must be taxes; that no taxes can be devised, which are not ... inconvenient and unpleasant ... ."
Opinion polls suggest that in the November mid-term elections, voters will replace the present Democratic majority in Congress with opposition Republicans — but that will not necessarily stop Obama.
In my life I traveled extensively and still manage to get out of the US on business from time to time. I have never encountered a nation that did not feel as if it had the OBLIGATION to protect it's borders. Not one. And I encounter a US Administration that is working diligently to break down those borders, openly surrendering vast tracts of land to illegal aliens and drug cartels -- blatantly posting signs for American Citizens to keep out.

I never thought I would see an American president wage war with the police in the way we've seen barack hussein obama do it over the past year and a half. I never thought I'd see the US Government nationalize private industry - and a president fire a CEO. I'm not going to make an outrage list here, and those who know me, understand that I am not calling for a re-play of the original American Revolution.

I do think it's nearly time for widespread civil disobedience against the depredations of the obama regime.
  • The power of the President of the United States must be reigned back to Constitutional limits.
  • The Government of the United States must adhere to the rule of law without exception for race that we've seen in the past few weeks.
  • The Executive Branch of government must secure our borders from illegal aliens, narcotics cartels and terrorists who can cross freely and without impediments today. Sanctuary cities and states must be held to answer for their VIOLATIONS OF THE LAW.
The people can do it again if they are willing.

By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the
shot heard round the world.

Chevrolet Volt

The Chevrolet Volt, built completely at taxpayer expense, at General Motors, won't go on sale until November 2010 (to coincide with the mid-term elections). Perhaps they hope that if progressives win, they'll celebrate by paying $41,000.00 for a car that has been termed as an ELECTRIC LEMON. The whole Electric Lemon tag may be a bit unfair because progressives have been looking forward to the Volt as their poster child. It's an example of what government can do when it nationalizes the auto industry. (isn't socialism grand?)

CLICK HERE  for the Bloomberg Businessweek report on the Volt.

CLICK HERE for the New York Times report on "GM's Electric Lemon".

Please don't read the fine print...

Developing the Volt cost the US Taxpayers $50 billion (source NY Times in the article above).

I choose to take a kinder approach to the Volt. After all, it's brought to you courtesy of the same people that now control your healthcare insurance and promised to reduce the expense of healthcare nationwide!

PS -- I wondered how long it would take to charge the batteries to drive you the promised 40 miles. Check out this article (CLICK HERE) IF you buy an expensive 240 volt charging station, you can charge the battery in 4 hours. If you simply run it off 110v house current, it takes about twice as long.

DID YOU GET THAT? After driving a dazzling 40 miles, I have to wait 8 hours to drive it again on a full charge???  $50 billion dollars for that sort of ground breaking technology...

The Nation of Aztlan

Think about what your elected representatives are saying. Consider their messages. The people at these demonstrations are not fringe elements or the disenfranchised. They include the Mayor of Los Angeles, the former Speaker of the California State Assembly (whose son was just convicted of murder) and other elected officials.

They recognize that America is a successful "entitlement" society. Americans have aided in the creation of that perception unfortunately, from the well-meaning "Nanny State" liberals to the cheap-labor-loving enterprise owners who do not care about the ultimate cost to the public at large. The problem with entitlement societies is that when those who are entitled to its benefits become vastly disproportionate to those who are paying for those benefits, the economic base degenerates under its weight and slowly spirals into decay. At some point the society can longer pay for all the benefits it showers upon its residents [of all classes] and it breaks down. Welcome to the Greece of today and California of tomorrow.

The people at these demonstrations do not want to become part of traditional America, its culture, or its values. They want to recreate America in their own image, and if you wonder what that is, just look over the fence. Now, I admit there are many many wonderful, loving, decent and intelligent people and many wonderful places in Mexico, but as a whole, their economic system, their culture, and their country has failed the common people there. Never has there been so many revolutions and so little progress as there has been in Mexico.

As for the protestors claim of entitlement based on their Hispanic, actually Native American [because in truth the Spaniards were merely the first of the white invaders] "birthright", I would remind them that their tribes didn't live here before the white man came. The present-day immigrants from Mexico are not of the same tribes as those who occupied the lands we now call California. The descendants of those native tribes number in a few thousands today. In their day -or were they in power today - they would have given a very rough reception to someone from south of the Rio Grande coming north to settle in their tribes' territories to claim the bounty of their lands. Ethnic solidarity based on "color" is a relatively modern invention. If you don't agree, study the history of the Aztecs and their ruthless subjugation and murder of their "brown" brothers, and get back to me.

Rule 5 on Virtual Mirage

Since MAINFO has been invoking Rule 5 as a mandatory blog style, I have decided to follow her down that slippery slope. Some may say that I have been corrupted by MA. And they might have something there. ###

Since I am pure as the driven snow, I had to search the blogosphere for something to steal. So the H/T goes out to the LIST OF THE DAY. Fairly swiped and pasted...

CLASSIC CLEAVE

A low-cut top + a push-up bra = magically hypnotizing boobage. Feast your eyes on those bad boys! But be careful not to wave them in front of a baby or they’ll take the feast part of that expression literally … especially if you rack it up like Salma Hayek.

SIDE BOOB

Visible thanks to large arm holes, no shirt, or string bikinis and popularized by models like Crystal Renn and celebuskanks like Lindsay Lohan, the side boob is a rare, celebrated form of cleave. It takes a skinny beyotch with big cans and a bad attitude to pull it off.

UNDER-BOOB

The underdog of cleavage, it bares the seldom seen bottom half of your usual rack. This cleave is more about bralessness than creating a valley of knockers. Under-boob was first brought into the light by ‘80s crops tops. Ah, those were the days! Or were they?
PUDDLE O'BOOB

Like muffin top and back boobies, this titillation comes from ill-fitting clothing. It’s the cleavage that is merely over-spillage caused by a too-tight bra. Her cup runneth over, hence she has a bit o’ boob popping.

SITUATIONAL CLEAVE

In some cases, cleavage can be formed and maximized by position.Folding your arms, lying on one side, leaning forward, shrugging your shoulders, grabbing ‘em in both hands, these moves are all tricks of the titty trade.

PADDED BRA CLEAVE

Thanks to science, we can have all kinds of things we weren’t born with, including cleavage created by gel inserts. This boob show follows the immortal words of Axl Rose, “Use Your Illusion,” and rock it!

BOOTY CLEAVE
The other lovely lady lumps—a.k.a. the coin slot. Low-rise jeans have given rise to the cheekiest form of cleavage.

No more swimming the Rio Grande?

The Orange County Register (a Southern California newspaper) reports that illegal aliens are being smuggled across the US-Mexico border by sea in increasing numbers (CLICK HERE FOR THEIR STORY). As one would expect, the smugglers bring in narcotics along with their human cargo. It's interesting to note that the Federal Government provided an $800K grant to the Orange County Sheriff's Department to help them interdict illegal aliens -- when they are suing the State of Arizona for trying to stem the flow of illegal aliens in support of federal law. If you think that it makes no sense -- it doesn't.

It's interesting to note that the Orange County Register feels as if, "Maritime smuggling poses a threat to national security." Of course, I agree that it does and it would seem that in this context the Department of Homeland Security agrees and has reached out to local law enforcement to help in their efforts in CALIFORNIA.  (photo left of illegal aliens running from a boat from the Orange County Register)

In Arizona, the Feds are at odds with the same concept and have declared vast tracts of land as "too dangerous for Americans" as they more or less surrender control of the border to lawless organized crime/narcotics cartels.

The barack hussein obama regime needs to be consistent in its efforts to control the border. Embracing the help offered by the State only makes sense. In California, Penal Code Section 849(b) authorized California's law enforcement officers for several decades to do precisely what the Arizona 1070 law now allows their state officers to do.

MAINFO reports that protesters from the Democratic Party and affiliates are planning on protesting Arizona's law that goes into effect this week.

America isn't buying it, barack.

(photo h/t WoFat)

"Redistribute wealth" (loot those who have for the benefit of those who have not) sounds great if you never worked that hard to get where you are. Unfortunately for barack hussein obama, most Americans DID work hard to get an education, learn a trade and put themselves in a position to raise a family, etc. They're not excited about giving what they've put together with their own two hands to somebody else.

"Don't read it, just sign it", is not a concept that Americans want their legislators to follow. Deeming a multi-trillion budget as passed instead of debate and discussion doesn't play well. The machine politics of "I don't know what's in the Bill either, but I know you're going to like it when you've signed it" is odious to Americans.

"Embrace Illegal Aliens" and give them a free ride because they might vote Democrat doesn't impress us as a strategy that the United States should follow. Most of us agree that the individual states (such as Arizona) shouldn't have to do the job that the Federal Government SHOULD be doing. But since it's not and Phoenix is the kidnapping capital of the world (ahead of Mexico City) - they feel as though they must do something to protect their citizens if the Federal Government doesn't.

We don't trust the barack hussein obama regime or their lackeys in Congress to act in our best interests. National Healthcare is a monster that needs to be repealed and replaced with common sense regulations on the insurance industry (including tort reform) that will reduce the cost of healthcare. We do not want the US Government running our healthcare when they don't seem to be able to do ANYTHING well.

The RACISM shown by the barack hussein obama regime has been shocking in the extreme. Nobody expected the US Government to embrace the New Black Panther Party and indemnify them against prosecution. Nobody thought they'd live to see the day when a US Attorney General would establish a policy where members of one race would not be prosecuted for civil rights violations, no matter the outrage - but we have.

Iran's Internal Woes

Iran is a nation that currently faces increasing internal unrest. Unemployment is endemic at roughly 40% and the bazaar strike continues (though this week marks the beginning of religious holidays that close the bazaars). The infrastructure in Teheran is weakening as evidenced by widespread failures of the power grid in the summer heat. Forest wildfires are raging on the outskirts of the city.

The domestic situation in Iran grows more perilous as the summer of discontent continues. Ahmadinejad (and the Revolutionary Guard) finds it difficult to discipline everyone who is jumping ship on the regime. As a result there have been ongoing purges in the ranks of the Revolutionary Guards. Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, (photo right) commander of the Revolutionary Guards went on the record with Iran News (reported by German Radio) admitting that a number of their agents’ support for the leaders of the opposition movement. He said that it is better to convince them back than to have to have a physical confrontation, whereby they would have to be eliminated. Since when did the Islamic Republic blanch at eliminating dissenters?

"Fars News, the media arm of the Revolutionary Guard also wrote: Mohammad-Ali Jafari who was speaking at the launch of the first series of the Defense Readiness Program Trainers, on Saturday, July 22nd, responded to questions regarding the reasons why the dissident guards who support ‘the leaders of sedition,’ have not be dealt with. He replied: “They have been convinced that their actions were wrong and that their acceptance would be preferable to any physical confrontation and ultimate elimination.”
It is worth mentioning that this is the first time where any Iranian regime official has admitted to such discord within the ranks. What Jafari did not admit to however was the number of agents and the issues that have lead to dissent."
Hojattoleslam Mohammad Nasser Saghay Biria, President Ahmadinejad’s Advisor on Religious Affairs, has resigned his post in what his close associates are describing as a protest against Ahmadinejad’s alleged un-Islamic views on requirements for women to wear veil and conform to strict Islamic dress code. Ahmadinejad has not yet accepted Saghay’s resignation. (Saghay Biria is a disciple of Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi, said by many to be the next in in line to become Supreme Leader).

To be fair, this sort of internal dissent has been rampant in Iran -- forever. However, the ability of the present regime to muzzle it is new and some say that as the opposition increases, the possibility of provocative military action (against Israel?) increases. Nothing galvanizes a nation like external threats and war.

Liberals in Arizona

PHOENIX SUNS vs The State of Arizona

The owner of the Phoenix Suns basketball team, Robert Sarver, opposes AZ's new immigration laws. Arizona's Governor, Jan Brewer, released the following statement in response to Sarver's criticism of the new law:

"What if the owners of the Suns discovered that hordes of people were sneaking into games without paying? What if they had a good idea who the gate-crashers are, but the ushers and security personnel were not allowed to ask these folks to produce their ticket stubs, thus non-paying attendees couldn't be ejected. Furthermore, what if Suns' ownership was expected to provide those who sneaked in with complimentary eats and drink? And what if, on those days when a gate-crasher became ill or injured, the Suns had to provide free medical care and shelter?" -Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer

(h/t Sally E.)

Sally E. sent me the response by Gov. Jan Brewer in an e-mail. It serves to underscore the weak position liberals take when they oppose AZ 1070. It's easy to be a socialist and spend other people's money, but when it comes to your own funds, it's quite a different thing.

I make a similar challenge to other great socialists of our time: Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, barack hussein obama, etc. - When you become Ghandi and give all you have to the poor and begin to walk the walk, I will begin to take you seriously. As it is, your position is one of bribing taxpayers with their own tax revenue to obtain votes.

Flag Friday XI

Flag Friday is a periodic discussion of the world's national flags; the project is explained and indexed here.

These discussions are about graphic design, and perhaps about nationalism and national symbolism in general. They should not be taken as critical of the countries, ideals, cultures, or people that the flags represent.

Djibouti

Parsons: Without comment, he gives it an "B", 74/100.

Michael5000: The flag of Djibouti does its job of being a recognizable symbol pretty well, taking fairly conventional elements and combining them in a distinctive fashion. This is in part due to the unusual pastel tint of its blue and green fields, and in part to its use of white in the left-hand field -- fields abutting the flagpole are generally darker than the rest of the flag, but that pattern is reversed here. Too, the red star looks a little too small for the space it occupies. So yes, the flag of Djibouti is distinctive and recognizable. But to an extent, it arrives at that effect by looking just slightly, just subtly, not quite right.

Grade: B-

Dominica

Parsons: "Do not put a picture of a parrot on your flag!" demands Parsons. "(This goes for you too, Guatamala)." For this, and "bad colors," "graven images," and "it being "too busy," he assigns a "D", 40/100.

Michael5000: Hmm. It's fussy, it's figurative, and it fails the Betsy Ross test with flying colors. Seven distinct flying colors, to be precise. The three-tone stripes create an inherent asymmetry that I find deeply unsatisfying. And, it's in the long, stretched-out 2:1 ratio. There's not much to love about this flag qua flag, and I could hardly disagree with Parson's "Do not put a picture of a parrot on your flag." However... I will go as far as to confess... he's kind of a cute parrot...

Grade: C-

Dominican Republic

Parsons:Without comment, he assigns a "B", 70/100.

Michael5000: Without comment? Really? Because, although Parsons and I are generally on the same page regarding fussy figurative detail on flags, I'm usually a little more flexible and forgiving. But the flag of the D.R. is pretty egregiously fussy. The white cross through blue and red fields are, sure, terrific. But that bit in the center! Here's a description, from the Wiki:
A small coat of arms featuring a shield with the flag design and supported by a bay laurel branch (left) and a palm frond (right) is at the center of the cross; above the shield, a blue ribbon displays the national motto: Dios, Patria, Libertad (God, Fatherland, Liberty). Below the shield, the words República Dominicana appear on a red ribbon (this red ribbon is depicted in more recent versions as having its tips pointing upward). In the center of the shield, flanked by three spears (two of them holding Dominican banners) on each side, is a Bible with a small cross above it and said to be opened to the Gospel of John, either to chapter one or chapter 8, verse 32, which reads Y la verdad nos hará libre (And the truth shall make you free).
Heavens. This would be a preposterous level of detail for the flag as a whole, let alone for the little patch in the center. If you've got such specific flourishes in your design that they are not visible to the naked eye -- the Bible is "said to" be open to a special verse? -- it's safe to say they are not contributing to the overall effect. Purely conceptual elements in a flag design are not going to help you rally to your side on a chaotic battlefield.

Do not put a Bible flanked by three spears and tops with a small cross on your flag! And don't YOU get any ideas, Guatemala!

Grade: D

East Timor

Parsons: Dr. Parsons was either writing before, or using a list compiled before, 2002, the year that East Timor joined the happy community of recognized states.

Michael5000: The flag of East Timor, which if memory serves is still our youngest country, is distinctive, highly visible, and satisfyingly flaggy. It very nicely pulls off the trick of distinguishing itself from the other 200-odd flags without leaving the tradition of easily made, easily recognized whole-cloth banners. Two complaints, however -- the East Timorans, like the good people of Dominica, have made the unfortunate choice of the 2:1 ratio (at least officially, anyway; I believe most 2:1 flags are generally corrupted in general use into something closer to the more comfortable 5:3 ratio). Secondly, somebody seems to have gone to a great deal of trouble to establish that the star is rotated so as to not conform to any obvious symmetry. That drives me a little crazy.

Grade: B

Ecuador

Parsons: "The Colombian flag was not very good to begin with, fine effort from Ecuador making it worse." Charging "plagiarism," that it has "graven images," and that it's "too busy," he assigns a "C+", 64/100.

Michael5000: Sigh. We might as well start with the "plagiarism" bit. Yes, the flag of Ecuador is similar to those of Colombia (which Parsons calls "original") and Venezuela. Behold:

This shouldn't be too surprising, though, seeing as how they used to be three parts of the same country. Nowadays we call it Gran Colombia, but at the time (1819-1831) it was just "Colombia," a loose federal state that eventually got so loose that Ecuador and Venezuela calved off as independent countries. All three remnants of Gran Colombia took that country's flag as the starting point in coming up with their own banners, and there you have it. Their flags look similar, just as you'd expect. History is not plagiarism.

Now then, what of the "graven images" and "too busy" accusations, applied to a simple tricolor? It is not, as it might at first appear, an instance of good Dr. Parsons neglecting his medication, nor do I think it is his reaction to the Dominican Republic's issues, applied to Ecuador due to a compositor's error. No, I think that Parsons must have realized -- despite using a graphic of the plain civil flag on his website -- that Ecuador is one of several Latin American countries where the more elaborate state flag is in common use.

...and while it is certainly handsome -- I think the primary colors of the Gran Colombia flags look pretty sharp against a clear blue sky -- it is certainly as fussy as any flag burdened with an official seal.

Photographic evidence suggests that there are quite a few Ecuadoran flags that have had the state seal sewn onto only one side of them. You can tell, for instance, that there is a seal lurking on the reverse side of this one:

Which is pretty cool, in a flag-geeky sort of way: it yields a banner that is a state flag on one side, and a civil flag on the other. Two for the price of one!

I gave the flag of Colombia a B+. Essentially the same, but like Dominica and East Timor stretched into the elongated 2:1 ratio, Ecuador gets a...

Flag Friday X

[This episode of Flag Friday appeared last week at the L&TM5K.]

Flag Friday is a periodic discussion of the world's national flags; the project is explained and indexed here.

These discussions are about graphic design, and perhaps about nationalism and national symbolism in general. They should not be taken as critical of the countries, ideals, cultures, or people that the flags represent.

Cuba

Parsons: Without comment, he gives it an "A", 85/100.

Michael5000: One hundred and fifty years old, it seems reasonable to assume that this red, white, and blue star-and-stripes design worked out by anti-colonial Cubans was inspired by a broadly similar flag in a major mainland country to the north. There's some irony in there, since the relationship between those two countries over the last half-century has been antagonistic and ridiculous, sometimes comically so, sometimes tragically.

It is my belief that the country of Cuba leads the planet in cultural influence per capita, and since the flag is (as it is supposed to be!) a potent symbol of all things Cuban, it is a little difficult to separate the design from all that it has been freighted with, from groovy revolutionary idealism to Caribbean cuisine. But I try. At its heart, it is a sturdy, simple, but unremarkable flag. Not too fussy, but neither especially memorable in and of itself.

Grade: B

Cyprus

Parsons: "What can I say?" laments Parsons. "The mother of all flags with maps on them." For this, and "bad colors," he assigns a "D", 40/100.

Michael5000: I've got no special beef with maps on flags, which are rare enough in any event. The main problem with the flag of Cyprus, for me, is that it is kind of depressing. There's more than a touch of desperation in its overt symbolization of goals that seem reasonable enough, but have proven gloomily elusive: peace between Turkish and Greek Cypriots, and a politically united island.

There is a new flag, more traditional and less didactic, already designed for whenever Cyprus is able to reemerge as a united, independent country. I'll hold off on discussing it here, though, until we actually see it on the flagpoles.

Grade (for the current flag): C

Czech Republic

Parsons:Without comment, he assigns a "B", 70/100.

Michael5000: If the Czech flag seems a bit uninspired, that may be because it is. The traditional flag of Bohemia, back in the day, was a bicolor with white over red. This proved inconveniently identical to the flag of neighboring Poland and irritatingly similar to the red-white-red tricolor of neighboring Austria, so a distinction was made by adding a blue triangle. Voila! The flag of the Czech Republic.

Or rather, the flag of Czechoslovakia. When that awesomely named country went through its amicable divorce, one of the first acts of the new Czech Republic was to ban all symbols of the previous federation. One of the second acts was to adopt the flag of the previous federation as its own. It's a cute little constitutional crisis that nobody really cares too much about.

Grade: B

Denmark

Parsons: Noting that it is "simple," he gives it a "B", 74/100.

Michael5000: The flag of Denmark fell from heaven onto a battlefield in 1219, and the Danish king caught it before it touched the ground. This obvious gesture of God's favor inspired the Danes to win the day. Or so the story goes.

Now some of your more picky historians dispute the divine origins of the Dannebrog, but the upshot of the story is that, even if some of the specific details are in question, Denmark's flag must be very, very, very old. In fact, as noted earlier in this series, it seems to be in more or less of a tie with Austria for the oldest national flag still flying. Classic in that sense, it also has an elegant simplicity of line, form, and high-contrast colors that makes it a truly archetypical flag. Indeed, the "Scandinavian Cross" has subsequently been adopted by most of the Nordic countries. The short version? the Danish flag is awesome.

Ending the Depression/Recession

The true unemployment rate in America is close to 20% in some areas, less in others. The 9.X% numbers quoted by the government only applies to people currently receiving benefits. Those who didn't find a job during their benefit period aren't counted, independent contractors/workers who are not eligible for benefits are not counted. Neither are people who gave up looking for a job or took a job at 1/2 pay. Those are huge numbers and represent the gorilla in the corner nobody wants to talk about.

Of course the government is cooking the books. What would happen if they reported a jobless rate in the 20% range -- we'd be in a DEPRESSION. But that's not what they report, so we're not. barack hussein obama is a liar - but that's not news is it?

They White House reports that 3.5 million jobs have been created by the barack hussein obama regime. Polls indicate that 13% of Americans believe those numbers. I'd like to have the names of all of them so that I can sell them a bridge.

Investor's Business Daily reported it this way:
According to Labor Department data, the civilian labor force in June totaled 153.7 million people, 14.6 million (9.5%) of whom were unemployed. But in the latest IBD/TIPP poll conducted last week, 28.6% of respondents said at least one member of their household is unemployed and looking for work. This number for June was 27.8% and for May 28%.
When we project our household job-seekers rate and calculate the share of Americans who are unemployed and looking for work, we get a job-seeker rate of 24.1% for July for a total of 37 million Americans vs. the government's aforementioned 14.6 million.
The difference between our crude job-seeker rate of 24.1% and the Labor Department's jobless rate of 9.5% is night and day. The difference between our job-seekers (37 million) and Labor's unemployed (14.6 million) is a staggering 22.4 million. How does one account for 22 million people? Which is the reality?
To come up with its monthly jobless rate, the Labor Department surveys some 60,000 households. But the popular unemployment measure that results, dubbed U-3, is not a good indicator, because the department counts as "unemployed" only those who report actively looking for work in the past four weeks.
Some 8.6 million Americans responding to a tight job market have taken part-time jobs, though they'd like to be working full-time. In calculating U-3, the government counts these "underemployed" people as "employed," which helps reduce the unemployment rate.
Another 6.5 million individuals in the government survey say they want a job, but they are counted as not being part of the labor force ("persons not in the labor force but who currently want a job"). This category includes 2.6 million who are marginally attached persons. Of these passive job-seekers, some have other obligations but would take a job if offered.
Businesses hire people when they can PREDICT economic conditions. The present regime is spitting nails because business is sitting on capitol and not hiring. They are not hiring because they're concerned they'll loose their shirts when the obama regime and their Congressional toadies spit out the next new round of "sweeping reform".  Nobody with a lick of sense will move an inch to spend money when they think they're going to lose it.

Most people agree that the quickest way to end the depression is to vote the barack hussein obama regime and their associates from office and replace them with people who have a modicum of sanity.

Thoughts on barack and the Black Panthers

The New Black Panther Party endorsed candidate barack hussein obama (CLICK HERE). He recently returned the favor.

One might think that barack hussein obama would understand that this sort of extremism needs to be curbed. Can you imagine how he would have reacted if the KKK did the same thing? The United States Department of Justice has received explicit instructions not to prosecute black people for felonious conduct. That in and of itself is shocking.

Is barack hussein obama a closet black panther?

Real Unemployment Numbers 20%

I don't think I'll be the only one blogging about this, but it's worth a view and discussion.

Mort Zuckerman wrote at least one of the speeches that barack hussein obama read from his teleprompter. Now he's saying that the obama regime has failed in every possible way. (CLICK HERE FOR A TRANSCRIPT)

Mr. Zuckerman cites TRUE unemployment numbers in America at 20%. That is far closer to the truth than the numbers the government cites at 9.X %. And it strikes to the heart of the matter. barack hussein obama is on a spending binge which will increase taxes on the people who do work, increasing government jobs, which drain the private sector of money to pay those salaries -- all in search of redistribution of wealth and a utopian socialist agenda.

barack hussein obama's response to his failed economic policies, failed healthcare policies, failure to do anything about US border security beyond attacking Arizona, blatant racism, tacit support of radical Islam, etc.?  Blame George W. Bush. That's the mantra they hope to use to show America how cool they are.  Pretty lame, barack. Even your most ardent supporters and influential speech writer(s) are jumping ship.

It doesn't take a genius to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

How will barack obama deal with Nidal Hasan?

Do any of you remember Major Nidal Hasan, US Army Medical Corps? He's the radical Muslim in the US Army who went on a killing rampage (while chanting praise to Allah), murdering 13 of his fellow servicemen and women at Ft. Hood, Texas.

The legal proceedings have been delayed (again) to October 4, 2010, at which time a military judge will decide whether or not there should be a trial. There was a day and time when a soldier killing his fellow soldiers (unarmed) in cold blood would have been tried, sentenced and shot in the same day.  Questions not in dispute:

  • Nidal Hasan murdered 13 fellow servicemen.
  • Nidal Hasan murdered 13 fellow servicemen in the name of ISLAMIC TERRORISM (Treason) during a time of war.

The War on Islamic Terror is now called a "foreign contingency operation" by the barack hussein obama regime, so is it possible that Major Nidal Hasan is a hero of that regime? It's difficult for me to fathom even the craven obama regime of dipping that low. Then again, I didn't think that Attorney General Eric Holder would dismiss the case against the Philadelphia Black Panthers who engaged in voter intimidation in the 2008 elections either. If it wasn't for J. Christian Adams, who resigned his position with the Department of Justice as a matter of protest, we wouldn't have understood how deeply the racial bias runs in the obama regime. (CLICK HERE FOR MORE)

Doesn't the video above make you feel as if you're sitting next to barack hussein obama in Rev. Wright's Black Liberation Theology Church (below)?

Ok, back to Nidal Hasan, Islamic hero, American Traitor

Note how US Attorney General Eric Holder refuses to attribute Islamic Terrorism to ISLAMIC TERRORISTS. Doesn't this disturb you? Not just a little?

Is the barack hussein obama regime STONEWALLING the United States Senate Investigation?

Why would barack hussein obama and his regime refuse to give the requested information to the US Senate? Might it have to do with the same sort of extreme bias we have seen in the voter intimidation case? We understand that the US Attorney General and barack hussein obama have a clear bias in favor of domestic terrorists (Black Panthers) and a reluctance to attribute acts of terrorism to Muslims. Is that bias in action here on the Nidal Hasan case?
